According to the acid-base theory, there are different definitions of an acid-base such as the Arrhenius concept, Bronsted-Lowry Theory, Lewis Concept.
Definition of Acid-Base according to Arrhenius Theory:
Which hydrogen-containing substances that produce H+ ions in a solution are called acids.
HCl = H+ + Cl- (HCl as Acid)
On the other hand,
Hydroxyl-containing substances that produce OH- ions are called bases.
NaOH = Na+ + OH- (NaOH as Base)
Definition of Acid-Base according to Bronsted Lowry Theory:
Which substances
donate Proton (H+) to other substances in a solution are called Acids and which
substances that accept Proton (OH-) from other substances are called bases.
HCl as Acid,
HCl = H+ + Cl-
H2O as Base,
H2O + H+ = H3O+
Definition of Acid-Base according to Lewis Concept:
Which substances accept electron pair are called Acids and which substances donate electron pair are called Bases.
Cu2+ as acid,
Cu2+ + 2e- = Cu
F- as a base,
2F- - 2e- = F2
